Exterminators have treated three rooms for bed bugs at Penn State Milton Hershey Medical Center.
A patient's family first notified medical center staff Thursday that they had found bed bugs in the waiting room of one of the adult clinical units.
Staff then isolated the affected area and patients were carefully screened and transferred to other rooms.
Penn State Hershey Medical Center released a statement saying:
"The medical center hired exterminators to evaluate and treat the affected area within the hospital. A total of three patient rooms tested positive. All three rooms have since been treated and cleaned, and all three have reopened. The medical center followed standard procedures recommended by the exterminator to eliminate and prevent the recurrence of the bed bugs."
The bed bugs are believed to have come from a source outside the hospital.
